Quote Module

The central concept to the quote module is negotiation between the buyer and seller. Buyers and sellers can go back and forth, making modifications to the quote until each is satisfied.
The system keeps up with these modifications, so that a seller could review any previous steps in the quote negotiation.

The quote module gives customers the ability to start the conversation at their convenience. Additionally, it provides a record of communications and negotiation in the same place that the purchase takes place, instead of being lost to a cluttered inbox or remembered from a phone call.
Since many B2B products and services may not easily fit into the structure of a product catalog, the quote module allows customers or businesses to add custom line items to quotes that can be priced and sold like standard catalog items.

Through the quote messaging capabilities, customers have the ability to clearly indicate which negotiable items they wish to discuss with the sales team.

Broadleaf provides the tools to bridge the gap between customers and sales teams, empowering customers to shop on their own time, and enabling businesses to increase their conversions.

Quote Lifecycle

A quote can be initiated either from a buyer or seller.
The following example will walk through a buyer initiated quote process.

A quote begins with a buyer adding items to a quote, similar to how you would add items to a shopping cart or wishlist in a standard B2C commerce site.

The status of a quote determines what actions are possible for buyers and sellers.
For instance, buyers can only checkout with quotes that have been accepted, and sellers can only modify quotes that the customer has submitted.

Once the buyer has assembled what they would like to purchase, they submit the quote for the seller to review.

When reviewing, the seller has a few options:

  • accept the quote as-is
  • reject the quote outright
  • modify the quote to continue the negotiation

Whether the quote is accepted as-is or the quote is modified, the buyer has another chance to review the quote before purchasing.

At this point, if the buyer is okay with the quote after the seller has reviewed and possibly modified it, they can purchase the quote and the process is complete.

If the buyer wishes to modify the quote and continue negotiation, it will be submitted back to the seller to review and the process repeats. This process will continue until the buyer purchases an accepted quote, or either party archives it.
